Robust Taekwondo Team at Dallas Fort Worth 2022 International ChampionshipsMarch 2022
We accepted an invitation to participate in the Dallas International Open Championships in USA for the first time. According to Chief Instructor Turton, 'this was a developmental outing and a significant one for our Academy' as it was the first time we sent a Team overseas to compete on 19th and 20th March 2022. The trip allowed for live experience and witnessing of International Taekwondo competitions on a broad scale: from Sparring to Poomsae across a wide range of age groups and abilities; to Breaking and Group Demonstration competitions; to weapons displays and Team competitions. It was a fun, exciting and successful developmental experience. Mrs. Kristin Turton, Mr. Chioke Holder and Mr Bryce Turton respectively competed in the following: i) Adult Female Black Belt Poomsae; ii) Senior Men's Black Belt Sparring; and iii) Dragons Intermediate Sparring. |
Black Belt in Sparring Competition19-20 March 2022
Mr. Chioke Holder, who is also one of our Assistance Instructors, did well in his International sparring debut for his Country and the Academy in the 2022 Dallas Open Championships in Texas, USA, while showing great resilience and adaptive ability. He overcame the Day 1 limitations from being short on acclimatisation adjustment and rebounded well to execute far better and to drive an exciting conclusion to his first 'Golden Point' match on Day 2. In the process he collected a Bronze and Silver medal respectively but was far more appreciative of the success from the International calibration experience. We congratulate him as pioneer athlete for the Academy and wish him every success as he charts a course of success on the International Competition scene for Barbados as a National Athlete. |
